Let’s talk about the importance of morning routines.
In my head, anything beyond sleeping until the very last minute then rolling out of bed, throwing on makeup, and rushing to work was unthinkable. It was something reserved specifically for morning people who had nothing better to do than bask in their own glory.
They’d wake up at 5am and go for a run, be back by six, do some yoga, then they’d blog about how amazing their life was.
Yeah – wasn’t for me.
Buuuuuut, it turns out, all that can actually be pretty beneficial.
Who knew, right?
Well, here’s how I fell into it. Per my recent health kick I took advantage at all the time I was wasting and made use of it. As it turns out, I have a lot more time on my hand than I like to think.
Again… who knew?
As mentioned in my health kick post, I don’t start work until about 10:30 but I wake up at 8 every day. After I come back from taking my mom to work, That gives me an hour and a half before I even leave the house. What did I do with that time? Nothing. I watched Tv. I did my makeup. Then I went to work all the while complaining about how little time I had to do anything.
Welp, I put an end to that.
Again – on pinterest, I looked up a bunch of different things I could do in the morning that could work for me. Again, being as lazy as I am, I skipped through a ton, just because there’s no way I’m spending 40 minutes meditating, squeezing fresh orange juice, or making a full course breakfast.
Nope- not for me.
What I did find was one that worked for me from Live The Whole. It’s 20 minutes, and it’s straight to the point.
Easy enough.
So I started doing that for a little while. After getting back from taking my mom, I did the 7 minute workout (which was undoubtably 4-5 minutes at most because I’m disgustingly out of shape), then I would do the Luminosity games which are really fun but take a surprising amount of focus. I can’t say that I even tried the meditation. It’s just not something I can do in the morning. It just puts me back to sleep.
The key is finding what works for you. You have to get up and get active first thing in the morning. Since doing the workouts, I feel more awake at work and you feel like you accomplished something so it’s a mood booster.
I didn’t do anything incredibly drastic, but it’s made a difference. You just have to find a way to utilize the time you have in a way that you can look forward to every day. You don’t have to think of morning routines as something for the super disciplined or health elite cause that’s not the case.
You know what you have to do to be a healthier version of you and you have your whole life to work on it. So – do your research, drink your water, try new things & get it done in a way that you enjoy.
As always, let me know what works for you. 🙂
