Clean Brushes, Happy Face!

Cleaning my makeup brushes is something I don’t do half as often as I should. In fact, the mere thought of it makes me want to just throw them all away and just buy new ones every time. Unfortunately, I’m not quite there financially so I have to suck it up.

Now I don’t think I need to mention WHY we need to clean our makeup brushes, but for those of you who don’t know, they carry SO much bacteria that we’re just repeatedly putting back on our face every time we do our makeup. That’s the reason a lot of people get breakouts is also because of that. Actually, that’s exactly when I know it’s time to clean mine.

The process isn’t long, it’s just tedious so I save it for a weekend night when I know they can properly dry.

You only need two things:

I know some people also use a bit of olive oil but I find that Dawn keeps it really clean and soft.

What you do is put a little bit of detergent in a bowl, mix with water, and swirl your brush in then brush against your little cleaner. You can literally see all of the makeup and gunk leaving the brush. Repeat the water runs clean.

*Make sure you don’t tilt the brush upwards so that the water gets in the glue.

Use a soft towel to soak up as much water as possible before laying them down, slightly tilted downward, and leave them to dry.

I’ve used actual brush shampoos before, but they’re more costly and don’t last nearly as long so I’ve stuck with the the dish soap for a while.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you do something differently that’s either less time consuming or at least going to make me clean more often. 🙂
