It’s safe to say that there’s nowhere more magical in the Fall than New England. The leaves start to change around Mid-September. Towards the start of October, a chill in the air brings out flannels and light jackets. Everything is offered with a pumpkin spice kick. Sweet scents from candles and apple pie fill our homes, cushioned by cozy pumpkin décor.
I can’t think of a better place to be during the season. A couple of years ago, Jay wrote this POST for the blog that highlighted what we always look forward to and not much has changed. To me everything is enjoyable during these months. The food, the shopping, the days out. I’m adamant about despising an outdoor walk but when that temp hits a steady 65 degrees, I crave the outdoors.
And In the month of October, there are two things you HAVE to do.
Call me basic, but an afternoon at a farm is always on my list of to-do’s. Plus who can resist a good photo shoot for instagram? You can check out THIS Boston.com article for a list of the highest rated farms in Massachusetts but since I live on the North Shore, here are are my favorite with the fullest trees and best tasting cider: Smolak Farms – North Andover, Parlee Farms – Tyngsboro, Brooksby Farms – Peabody. And if you want to mix apple picking with a Brewery, you can check out Belkin Family Lookout Farm in Natick.
The second most New England thing you can do in the fall is go to Salem. From October 1st – October 31st Salem’s Haunted Happenings are in full effect. Local artists and vendors set up shop in the commons. All types of goodies from skincare products made of beeswax to marble crafted skulls are on sale. On the off season most of these vendors have Etsy shops you can look through. You can also get dressed up to check out the Salem Witch Musem, take on a haunted house, a candlelit graveyard tour, or go to the psychic fair. For more events than just shopping on the main strip, check out their calendar to make sure you don’t miss out.
I won’t get ahead of myself to much but the fall ends with a delicious Thanksgiving meal. How could you even dispute the fact that it’s the best of all the seasons?!
