Using Canva for Interior Design Projects

Canva.com is a versatile and user-friendly online design platform that is not only useful for creating social media graphics and presentations but also for interior design projects. Whether you’re looking to redesign a room, create a moodboard, or visualize your ideas, Canva can be a very valuable tool.

When working on your home design, creating a mood board is essential for your overall aesthetic and feel of a space. I like to create a Whiteboard design on Canva and on page 1, uploading pictures, screenshots of textures, and ideal accents that I’d like for my home to have.

On a second page, I like to create the visual of the space. I like to map out the room, add a block for the wall color, a screenshot for the floor panels to create the feel of the room you’re currently working in. You can then make duplicates of this initial page to edit the space with different wall colors, textures, etc.

If you’re an online shopper like I am, you’ll want to make a duplicate of page 2, and find the furniture pieces you already have or are looking to add and upload the images into Canva. The site offers this photoshop-quality background eraser tool as well as a layering feature so that you can add your pieces in there and play around with various configurations to find the best arrangement for your room. You can also include measurements and annotations to ensure accuracy and clarity.

I have used Canva for years on a multitude of projects but especially for every apartment move. It allows me to see what it is I’m working with. How all of the pieces are able to work together and if I’m even able to bring some of the larger pieces with me. As someone who puts a lot of thought into my home, I want to make sure that what’s in my head translates well on paper and in person and this is the best and easiest way I have found to do that.
